WHEN IS AN SVA TEST REQUIRED?
A question we are often asked. The answer is any imported vehicle 10 years old and younger. This can increase the cost of the imported vehicle by up to £1000. There MUST be a model report available otherwise an SVA test can not be carried out. Take a less than 10 year old Skyline for an example. Any after market extras must be removed. The car has to be as the factory produced it. That means things like a/m spoilers--wheels--suspension--induction kits--exhaust--guages--turbo timers--you name it if its after market it has to be removed. The car can then be entered for the SVA test and when it passes all of those extras can be put back on! Stupid? Well yes but that's the ways of authority i'm afraid. Take a Legacy manual B4 as a standard car example. The SVA test for this car is close on £1000 because the model report is £300 for starters. A cat alarm has to be fitted and a few small mods made before the car can be submitted. It would pay to wait for a few more months so that they are 10 years old and an instant £1000 would be saved.
